SUPERB U.S. M1840 CAVALRY OFFICER’S SABER BY AMES.

Blade length: 35 3/4″
Blade is etched over 2/3 of its length w/ a mounted cavalry officer, a spread winged American eagle, “US” & an Indian, along w/ various patriotic, foliate & military motifs. Blade is further etched w/ foliate motifs on the spine & is etched near the ricasso, “N.P. Ames Cutler Springfield”. Gilded brass hilt w/ foliate embellishments on the branches, pommel & quillon areas. Brass braided wire wrapped leather grip. Darkened iron scabbard.
