FINE CIRCA 1830 AMERICAN MOUNTED OFFICER’S SABER WITH HORSEHEAD POMMEL

Overall length: 39 1/8″. Blade length: 33″. Blade has a lg. single wide fuller. Blade has gold highlighted etching on a blued background over the first 1/2 of its length. Etching includes 3 Liberty caps on pole, spread winged eagle w/ “E PLURIBUS UNUM” banner, a spray of arms & various foliate motifs. Heavily gilded brass hilt w/ a feathered talon quillon on the crossguard & a swan head on the knuckle bow. The pommel is an exceptionally well executed full horse’s head w/ mane extending down the backstrap. Originally, there was a chain from the horse’s mouth to the swan’s bill that is now missing. Cross hatched certifiable antique ivory grip. Gilded brass mounted leather scabbard. Leather scabbard body is a skillful recreation of the original. The original mounts have lineal embellishments around the decorative edges.
