Bbl. 40″ full oct., rifled & marked “J.KUNZ PHILADa”. Percussion lock & hammer nicely engraved, marked “J.KUNZ.” Stock is curly maple w/ 3 silver oval inlays around bbl. wedges on each side. 4 Piece beautifully engraved patchbox has 5 piercings; the finial piercing is in the shape of a heart. Cheekpiece features silver engraved 8 pointed star. Silver inlay on wrist engraved “HM”. 8 1/2″ Brass engraved saddle plate, 5″ brass engraved toeplate w/ 1 piercing, & 3″ brass engraved sideplate w/ 1 piercing. Jacob Kunz was born in the Lehigh Valley, later moving to Philadelphia and is celebrated for his excellent & beautifully engraved rifles. His later rifles in Philadelphia were signed “KUNZ”. His work is sought after by serious collectors.
