MARTIALLY MARKED HENRY CIVIL WAR LEVER ACTION ENGRAVED REPEATING RIFLE

S# 3056

Bbl. 24″ octagon with integral mag. tube. Bbl shroud rotates for loading. Brass blade front sight with graduated leaf rear sight. Left bbl. flat has U.S. sub inspectors Charles G. Chapman initials “C.G.C.” over “H”. Most of the 1731 rifles acquired by the government between 1862 and 1865 were in the S# range 3000-4200. Many were issued to the 1st Maine & 1st District of Columbia cavalry regiments. Brass action has generous coverage of custom added vine type foliate scroll with stippled backgrounds having straight line & wavy borders. Early style brass trapdoor buttplate has complimenting engraving at the heel. The straight grip walnut stock without swivel has a slight perch belly.
