English School, 19th century. Oil on canvas depicts a parody of a drunkard featuring a red nosed patron seated at a tavern table drinking. A matron in bonnet and blue apron reaching for the man; a club in her right hand, while a second patron looks on with a stein in his hand. “You drunken old rascal”, “Oh patience sweet wife and I’ll never…”. Housed in a molded wood frame with gold gesso liner. SIZE: overall 28″ x 34″, sight 24″ x 30″.
