FULLY TRANSFERABLE MODEL 1914 MITRAILLEUSE AUTOMATUQUE HOTCHKISS MACHINE GUN

03-1811
Cal. 8mm Lebel.
S# 27265

Bbl. 31″. The Model 1914 Hotchkiss machine gun was the primary machine gun of the French Army in World War 1, through early World War 2, until the fall in 1940. It came back into service for a short time again during the French campaign in Vietnam. The Model 1914 is almost instantly recognizable due to the 5 enormous cooling fins on the bbl. just forward of the receiver. This is one of several features that proved to be inspirational to the later Japanese HMG designers. It had a reputation as a reliable gun, though it was quite heavy, weighing over 100 pounds w/ the tripod. It was a very early gas operated machine gun, chambered in 8mm Lebel w/ a cyclic rate between 450 & 500 rounds per minute. It fires in fully automatic only w/ no provision for semiautomatic function. The left side of receiver is marked “MITRAILLEUSE AUTOMATIQUE HOTCHKISS / BREVETEE S.G.D.G.” The right side of the receiver is marked w/ the serial number “27265” & the manufacturing date of 1917. The front sight is a heavy, exposed blade. The rear sight is an elevation adjustable tangent sight, marked from 250 meters to 2000 meters. This firearm is a beautiful medley of steel & brass. Prominent brass parts include feed shuttle, pistol grip & elevation adjustment screw for tripod. Original Model 1916 Standard Parts Co, 360 degree tripod. MAGS: 10 steel 24 rd. feed strips.
