Bbl. 30 1/2″ with five cooling fins. Wide front sight that is missing its luminous insert. Balle D marked rear sight graduated to 2000m. 1917 dated example of the famous strip-fed French WW1 M1914 Hotchkiss heavy machine gun. The M1914 was widely used by French forces & the American Expeditionary Force during the Great War. Hotchkiss machine guns are renowned for their simplicity & reliability. Right side of receiver has 1917 date & serial number. Left side of receiver marked “MITRAILLEUSE AUTOMATIQUE HOTCHKISS / BREVETEE S.G.D.G. / CALIBRE 8 M/M” & with Charles Erb bullet logo. Several markings exhibit added white highlight making the markings standout. Gun is listed as caliber 8mm with Charles Erb as mfr. on registry. Receiver & top cover have matching numbers. Brass feed tray numbered “M26639”. Bbl. serial number is faint & mismatched. Bbl. assembly has black enamel arsenal type finish. Gun is mounted on an American Standard Parts Co. tripod with green enamel paint.
