TOMMY J. KAYE ENGRAVED S&W 4-SCREW 4″ PRE-MODEL 29 CASED REVOLVER

Bbl. 4″ with Baughman front sight factory cut for its white (normally red) insert; fame mounted white outlined Micrometer rear. Shipped Jan. 14, 1958 (1956-1958) to Edward Tryon Co. of Philadelphia, PA along with 4 other identical revolvers at a wholesale price of $86.06 each. N frame 4 screw model having serrated target trigger and checkered target hammer; both case colored. Scarce barrel length with noted references stating less than 25% of its 6,500 unit production was 4″ and that 4″ barrels were not offered until late 1956; 6 1/2″ was the common length. Target configured smooth white grips with S&W style locating disks on backs. Consignor states its fine, full coverage engraving is by Tommy J. Kaye of Texas who was a founding member of the Firearms Engraver Guild of America; consignor further states that the grips are by John Smyri (or Smyrl). Relief scroll engraved with matte backgrounds. Vignette on either side of frame; boar on right and ram on left.

UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: very good (light handling marks), blue / black presentation case with second series (post late 1956) style clasp latch. Blue / violet satin interior with revolver outline containing proper brass based wool mop and later production sight screwdriver having aluminum fluted handle rather than being blued steel with knurled handle. Correct finger looped aluminum cleaning rod. Feb., 2020 factory letter supporting previously mentioned shipping info plus stating configuration as shipped.
