AWARD WINNING $200 GRADE PARKER BROS. LIFTER GUN MADE FOR 1876 PHILADELPHIA CENTENNIAL EXHIBITION WITH EXHIBITION EPHEMERA

This historically important gun was completed in 1876 and the stock book records it being a “centennial gun” built for the 1876 exhibition held in Philadelphia. After the exhibition it was returned to Parker and sold to the Parker Brothers store in New York. It is recorded as being a $200 grade gun of 10 gauge, lifter action with 32″ Damascus barrels with choking: 150 pellets right and left (mod & mod). Other specifications are given and gun remain in this configuration to this day. The barrels are a very high grade Damascus. Identification ledger states this is a D4 grade gun. Top rib is engraved “PARKER BROS MAKERS MERIDEN CONN DAMASCUS STEEL”. Barrel flats are stamped with weight “5.2” and with the initials “JT”. Frame size is “3”. Case hardened lifter action has one piece lifter with improved bolt, rebounding hammers, recessed hinge pin bolt and double triggers. Action break off is of square configuration not later rounded type. Fences are deeply relief carved in Parker’s standard dramatic style. Sides of bolsters do not have teardrops. Firing pins are of early type and have not been converted. Action is engraved with nicely cut and shaded scroll within geometric borders on top tang and with a snipe on bottom of action. Trigger plate is engraved with 1866 & 1875 patent dates. Lockplates are engraved with more geometric borders and some bursts of scroll. Dog scenes are on each side with nicely detailed setter on left and pointer on right. Correct hammers are in place and are engraved with matching borders and scroll. A pointer is on trigger guard bow and S# is on tang. Round knob grip buttstock made of nicely fiddle figured and marbled European walnut measures 14-1/2″ over skeleton steel buttplate. Lozenge shaped drop points are present and checkering has fancy pointed border at front. Silver shield at top of grip is engraved with the initials “J.S.B”. Matching splinter forend with steel tip has sidebolt fastener through engraved steel escutcheons.

UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: factory letter, gold embossed book (12″ x 16″) “The Illustrated Historic Register of the Centennial Exhibition 1876″, booklet (4-1/2″x 6-3/4”) Authorized Visitors Guide to the Exhibition, a “Package Ticket” to the Exhibition (2-1/4″ x 3-1/4″) signed David G. Yates and over stamped in red ink “Fifty Cents”, relief struck bronze medal “AWARDED BY THE CENTENNIAL COMMISSION” (3″ diameter x 3/8″ thick), red Morroco leather wallet commemorating the Centennial and a pressed glass wine goblet embossed “CENTENNIAL 1876″ (6-1/2″ tall x 3/4” diameter). This gun was given the People’s Choice Award, 2016 Parker Gun Collectors Association, Baltimore, Maryland. Please Note: There is no award included in this lot.
