EXTREMELY EARLY CINCINNATI POLICE DEPARTMENT MARKED COLT POLICE POSITIVE DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER WITH FACTORY LETTER & LETTER OF AUTHENTICITY

S# 62018.
Bbl. 4″. Police Positive double action revolver mfg. by Colt during the second year of Police Positive production (1908). Left side of the bbl. is marked “COLT NEW POLICE 32”, with Colt’s 3-line address and patent information marked across the top, and “POLICE-/ POSITIVE” marked on the right. Left side of the frame is marked with the Rampant Colt logo surrounded by “(MALTESE CROSS) COLT’S (MALTESE CROSS)/ NEW POLICE”. Butt is factory engraved “C.P.D.”, indicating issue to the Cincinnati Police Department, as mentioned on page 376 of “The Book of Colt Firearms, Third Edition”, by R.L. Wilson. Metal components exhibit a high polish blue finish overall. Frame is mounted with 2-piece “COLT” checkered black hard rubber grips. Fixed half-moon blade front sight, with square frame notched rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame and cyl. crane. Grips are matching via the full S#, which is lightly inscribed on the interior of the panels. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Colt factory letter indicating that this example was 1 of 5 “C.P.D.” engraved Police Positive revolvers shipped to Powell & Clement Company in Cincinnati, OH on June 15th of 1908. Revolver is also accompanied by a Ancestry Guns Certificate of Authenticity, which lists this revolver by S#.
