SCARCE SMITH & WESSON NO. 2 LARGE FRAME LEVER ACTION PISTOL WITH ORIGINAL IVORY GRIPS
01-26757
Cal. 41
S# 93
These large frame Smith & Wesson lever action pistols are seldom offered, only an estimated 500 were made 1854-1855. This example is honest and conforms to standard configuration with 10″ octagon to round barrel, stamped on top flat in triangular marks: “SMITH & WESSON, NORWICH, CT / PATENT / CAST-STEEL”, integral spring loaded tubular 10-shot magazine, engraved steel frame, rarely seen ivory grips, screw fastened fixed notch rear sight, pinched post front sight, nicely crowned muzzle face.
Made to shoot self-contained “rocket ball” cartridges with powder & primer contained in conical ball. This was the first Smith & Wesson branded firearm based on Daniel Wesson’s 1854 patent that would be sold to Oliver Winchester in 1856 who continued making brass framed lever action pistols. These rare pistols are historic & important to S&W and Winchester collectors alike.
STATUS: ANTIQUE
