NEW YORK ENGRAVED SMITH & WESSON NO. 3 FIRST MODEL RUSSIAN SA REVOLVER

S# 13309.
Bbl. 8″ rnd. with rib and pinned semi-circular blade front sight. Top strap has standard mfg., patent, and Russian Model markings. 6-shot fluted cyl. This desirable revolver has 75% coverage of foliate scroll hand engraving. It was common practice for New York distributors to have guns custom engraved by the same engraving shops that did work for the major factories. Nickel finished bbl. and frame with gold finished cyl. and hammer. 2-piece ivory grips. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Smith & Wesson factory letter detailing the history of the No. 3 Russian Model revolvers. Letter further states “We have researched your Smith & Wesson Model 3 Russian First Model, Commercial Variation, caliber .44 S&W Russian, revolver in company records. They indicate that your handgun, with serial number 13309 was shipped from our factory on September 10, 1872. It was delivered to M.W. Robinson Co., New York City. The records indicate that this revolver was shipped with an 8-inch barrel, and smooth walnut grips. The shipment was for 80 units of the Russian Model. The order contained both blue and nickel finishes. The records did not list the different finishes by serial number. The engraving and gold plating was done after it left our factory. Probably done by Robinson. If it is.”. Also included is a later production wood case with fitted interior and cartridge block.
