JAPANESE TACHI COURT SWORD

This attractive heavily gilded tachi measures 40 1/8″ overall with a 27 1/2″ blade. The blade has an irregular hamon with a gilded brass habaki. The tsuba is actually a tachi style crossguard for a court sword with a heavily gilded finish featuring foliate engraving and a family mon that depicts a three branched tree. There is a bracket on either side likely for suspension. There is a heavily gilded seppa above and below the crossguard. The nakago has three character signature on one side with a single mekugi-ana. The tsuka has heavy gilding on the matching fuchi and kashira that also matches the crossguard. The menuki consists of three gilded family mon together. There are five other studs in the white same that feature a family mon on one side and an oval stud on the other. The saya has a gold finish with shin-gunto style mounts and five large gold foil family mon on each side. The sageo is quite ornate and is also heavily gilded. (02-25811/BF).
