These truly great reproduction guns are becoming increasingly valuable and hard to find. The A1 Special grade was added to the line up around 1988 with 150 factory engraved guns produced in all gauges. The A1 Specials were only provided on special order. They were hand engraved. This particular example was provided with 2 sets of barrels; one 26″; the other 28″. Both barrel sets have broad matted ribs marked with Parker Reproduction information. The 26″ barrels have 2-3/4″ chambers; the 28″ have 3″. Engine turned barrel flats are marked with Parker proofs, S#’s and chokes. 26″ barrels are marked “Q1” & “Q2″; 28” barrels “Mod” & “Full”. Both barrel sets are S#’d to the action. Bottoms of lumps are stamped with frame size “0”. Reinforced spinters are marked “1” & “2” on the loops. Case hardened small size Parker action features automatic safety (“SAFE” inlaid in gold) and gold plated single selective trigger. Engine turned watertable is stamped with grade and S#. Action is filed in A1 style with three beads around fences and chevron on top lever. The top lever on this gun also has thumb piece pierced and sculpted with multiple scrolls. Hand engraving is in A1 style with double dogs on sides surrounded by multi-sized scroll and geometric borders. A pair of pointers pointing on left and setters pointing and honoring are on right. “Parker Bros” is inlaid in gold under each scene. Bottom of action is engraved with a pointer and setter. Center of trigger plate is semi-relief engraved with a portrait of a spaniel retrieving a dove. Blued trigger guard has two scroll surrounded piercings flanking a flying woodcock on bow. S# is in gold on tang. Pistol grip buttstock made from a good piece of stump figured European walnut with some dark veining measures 14-1/8″ over skeleton steel buttplate with fleur-de-lis in checkering. Fleur-de-lis relief carved side panels have checkered backgrounds and matching drop points. Typical A1 Special style checkering wraps over top of grip. Grip cap is made of figured walnut and has gold line spacer; bottom is inset with large gold oval without initials. Matching splinter ejector forend with nicely filed steel tip and typical release serves both barrel sets. MEASUREMENTS: STOCK: 28″ barrels DAH: 2-1/8″. DAC: 1-3/8″. CAST: neutral. LOP: 14-1/8″. WEIGHT: 6 lb. 13 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: gun and both barrel sets are housed in their original high quality oak and leather case with brass corners which has zippered tan canvas and leather outer cover. Interior is lined in green cloth and has Parker Reproduction label in lid. Case contains Parker marked oil bottle and snap caps. Also include are Parker Reproduction registration form, instruction booklet and a “Parker Guns” reproduction catalog with yellow flying duck cover. STATUS: MODERN.
