SELDOM ENCOUNTERED PORT SAID SUBMACHINE GUN (PRE-86 DEALER SAMPLE)

Port Said (pronounced “Sa-eed”) submachine gun mfg. in Egypt. The Port Said is virtually identical to the more well known Swedish M/45 line of submachine guns, with the license, tooling, as well as technical assistance acquired by Egypt in the 1950s from Sweden. The left side of the receiver is marked with a line of Farsi, with “PORT-SAID 9mm MADE IN EGYPT”, a British Crown/BNP proof, and “BELLO WPB FL.” above an electro-penciled S# “001” on the right side. Top of the receiver is marked with an Egyptian pschent crown above the original factory Farsi S# that appears to read “1209” followed by Farsi characters “Alef” and “Ayn”. Bolt is virtually unmarked, save for a small proof consisting of 3 stars within a crescent moon, which is repeated on the receiver end cap. Bbl. exhibits a matching Farsi S# to the receiver, as well as British proof marks. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall. 2-piece plain wood grips, each painted with a Farsi character in white paint (left grip’s paint has mostly worn away and is illegible). Adj. post front sight on the threaded perforated bbl. shroud, with 3-leaf U-notch rear sight mounted on the receiver. (NOTE: former Stern Collection, JDJ, Lot 96, March of 2008). MAGS: x1 50-rd.
