MODEL 1941 JOHNSON DUTCH CONTRACT SEMI-AUTO MILITARY RIFLE

Replacement 2-groove bbl marked with only “4116”. Bbl extension is not numbered. Aperture rear sight graduated to 1000 meters. Blade front sight with protective ears. Bayonet lug is present. Receiver markings include “JOHNSON AUTOMATICS / MODEL OF 1941 / MADE IN PROVIDENCE, R.I. U.S.A. / CAL. 30-06 SEMI-AUTO”. The receiver is marked at the left rear with “CRANSTON ARMS CO.” in inverted triangle. Tiny 5-pointed star above triangle is the Dutch acceptance mark. The Johnson rifle with its rotary magazine was developed as a competitor to the M1 Garand rifle. Johnson Rifles were contracted for by the Dutch Government for service in the East Indies. Some were delivered there, but most were not and were taken up by the U.S. Government and a number of these rifles were issued to the Marine Corps. 2pc walnut stock set. The buttstock has the added cheeks behind the magazine common to later production. Green web US sling. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: original spike blade Johnson bayonet. 7 7/8″ blade; 11 7/8″ overall. The unmarked bayonet is accompanied by a well worn leather scabbard. Scabbard has notable wear and spots of loose stitching. Bayonet has an arsenal rework parkerized finish.
