M14 style sights. Very rare M14 22 Training, prototype rifle made in 1959 to mimic weight, length, operation & appearance of the standard 7.62 service rifle. This ultra-rare H&R M14 .22LR select fire machine gun was developed by H&R Arms Company of Massachusetts to offer the U.S. military a trainer rifle that was a twin to the service rifle, rather than something of differing weight & dimensions. The benefits of the rimfire M14 rifle were to allow use of an inexpensive, readily available round without sacrificing muscle memory, and at a fraction of the cost of the 7.62 NATO ammunition. This example may be the rarest of the known M14 configurations, potentially being the only one verified in existence. A rare glimpse into the history of this rifle can be seen in the book “The Last Steel Warrior – The U.S. M14 Rifle” by Frank Iannamico on page 306, referred to as “The Simulator Rifle”. It was sourced from the H&R asset liquidation sale on March 15, 1985 by former Colt executive John Keosayian. It was accompanied by several other rare H&R military arms & prototypes.
