While we often encounter M2HB variants, they are often “sideplate” guns, not often an original General Motors version such as this example. The Browning M2HB, affectionately referred to in military circles as “Ma Deuce” is another evolution of the successful John Browning designed, recoil operated & belt fed guns that populated the battlefields following WWI. In an effort to build a gun that was comparable to the French 11mm Hotchkiss, w/ a primary purpose of defeating observation balloons & aircraft, the .50 BMG was designed and introduced for the M1921A1, which was quickly modified & reintroduced as the M2. Barrel heating issues would lead to the heavy barrel version that we now know as the M2HB. This example was manufactured by General Motors, complete w/ U.S. Ordnance markings. Right sideplate marked: “BROWNING MACHINE GUN CAL.50 M2 / MANUFACTURED BY / BROWN-LIPE-CHAPIN DIV. GENERAL MOTORS / SYRACUSE, NEW YORK, U.S.A. / U.S. NO. 1789926 / GVT. INSP. FJA” w/ Ordnance flaming bomb above serial number. Top trunnion has matching serial number to right sideplate. Hooded front sight blade w/ coinciding rear ladder sight. 10″ ventilated barrel shroud. Spade grips w/ “butterfly” thumb trigger. Mounted on M63 tripod base w/ cradle & ammo can. NFA registry lists manufacturer as “Browning Arms Co”. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: spare M3 ground tripod.  PROVENANCE: Military Museum Collection of Shooters Outpost, Hooksett NH. NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT MG REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION. FULLY TRANSFERABLE.  STATUS: CURIO CLASS III.
