SOUTH CAROLINA CONFEDERATE GRISWOLD & GUNNISON REVOLVER, SABER & CS BELT

This outfit was the absolute prize of Bill Gary’s collection. He illustrates the pistol, belt and holster in full color opposite title page of his 1987 Confederate Revolver text. The Griswold is among the finest condition of all surviving Confederate revolvers retaining much of its original finish. The Griswold is late war, among the last few finished using mixed parts, fancier wood, silver plating, and internal single digit “4” identifying gun, though frame is serialized 3424. Bill Gary writes 2 letters concerning revolver “I am sure this is the highest conditioned Griswold & Gunnison in existence”. This revolver like 4 other late survivors is made from well fit mixed assembly marked parts, highly polished and bright blue finish. The belt is Richmond depot style bullet stitched belt with 2-piece CS belt plate, holster is Gaylord contract Union military flip holster. The saber is rarely seen unique 1835 State of South Carolina contracted pattern 1833 dragoon with unique rounded “bird head” pommel with no spanner, retains original leather sword knot. Blade is script etched along with Ames maker mark, “SOUTH CAROLINA / 1835”. This is among the rarest Confederate ensembles you will find and in the finest condition.
UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: detailed authentication and appraisal report Sept. 1, 2014; copy of correspondence confirming 2011 purchase; 2 letters of authentication from Bill Gary; 1988 affidavit telling of SC history of rig when obtained in 1957.
