SUPER SCARCE 1906 PATTERN GL MARKED LUGER CARBINE IN THE EXPERIMENTAL, PRE-SERIES 10,000C SERIAL RANGE, THIS EXAMPLE IN 9MMP WITH A “CAL. 9M/M” MARKED MAGAZINE

Luger collectors have long appreciated that the 10,000C serial range was reserved for interesting/experimental firearms. This exceptional Carbine with a 1906 pattern toggle train and frame no exception, particularly with respect to the intertwined GL monogram on the rear toggle link, reflecting assembly under Georg Luger’s personal supervision. Most features were otherwise taken from a standard 1902 carbine in that the pistol has an 11 7/8 inch barrel with a serrated ramp, horizontally drift adjustable bead profile front sight. The sleeved rear sight is also standard with four notches, three of which are numbered “1”, “2”, and “3”. Blank chamber and a DWM monogram on the forward toggle link, the rear link with 60 degree checkering on its ears and the GL monogram. Safety lever with small fluted head, broad grip safety, and late form stock lug. Usual checkered forend with rotatable sling swivel, uniformly checkered walnut panels. Disassembly shows the full serial number “10110.C.” on the lower surface of the barrel and frame extension. The last two digits “10” are marked on the barrel extension lug, the breech block, both components of the toggle link, lower surface of sideplate, and the inner surface of the left grip. The takedown lever, trigger, safety lever, holdopen, grip safety, forend/associated parts, and the inspected right grip are not numbered. MAGS: era-correct 8-rd. mag. with tinned body and walnut plug, the lower surface with script lettering “Cal. 9m/m.”. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: extensive documentation, with notable documents to include letters of authentication from Ralph E. Shattuck & Robert Simpson, letters from Mauser-Werke Oberndorf GmbH (circa. 1984) showing interest in acquiring this Luger, documentation detailing this example’s chain of ownership, a copy of the October 1974 issue of Guns & Ammo magazine (featuring this gun on the cover), a letter indicating that this example was captured by John S. Melvin, whom found this example (while clearing a “well-to-do” neighborhood) during the liberation of Stuttgardt, Germany, a letter from then Centerville, LA High School principle indicating that he signed the authorization form for John S. Elvin to bring back this example, as well as other pages and documents.
