FULLY TRANSFERABLE ASSEMBLED 08-18 MAXIM MACHINE GUN
03-2293 | Cal. 7.92. | S# 9296A. | Bbl. 28 1/3″.
Blade front sight that appears to be missing some parts. Tangent rear sight graduated to 2000m. Matching numbers on left sideplate, stock & stock plate. Other parts are mismatched & mixed with lock bearing Weimar droop eagles & top cover being from a 1918 Erfurt 08/15. This piece appears to be an old assembled/facsimile 08/18 Maxim machine gun made using a variety of parts mostly from an 08-15. The 08/18 was the air cooled successor to the 08-15 water cooled LMG. The 08-18 was made at the end of WW1 but saw no use during that conflict & would be used by the Reichswehr in the interwar period. Erfurt was the sole producer of the 08/18 in 1918. No bipod or carry handle assemblies present. Bbl. shroud appears to have a black enamel finish, while balance of metal has a blued finish. NFA registry lists mfr. as German. 08-15 buttstock & checkered pistol grip that displays a poor fit to metal. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: aftermarket hardcase & drum hanger. Also included are several documents such as the amnesty paperwork from 1968 listing this gun as a “German aircraft gun”, several redacted past ATF registration forms & FOIA letters. The model is listed as an 08/18 on a few of the ATF forms. PROVENANCE: Military Museum Collection of Shooters Outpost, Hooksett NH. NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT MG REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION. FULLY TRANSFERABLE. STATUS: CURIO, CLASS III.
