MASSIVE ANTEBELLUM FREDERICK HASSAM BOSTON MADE BOWIE KNIFE

This knife is pictured on page 234, “Accoutrements IV” by James Johnston. 20” overall, 14” meaty .3” thick clip point blade agent marked “M.L. BRADFORD & CO. BOSTON”, Bradford had high end Boston sporting & gentleman’s shop established in 1842. All Bradford marked knives were made by Frederick Hassam. Hassam was a true artist making his unique designed bowies each fitted with a crown stag handle carved & polished to perfectly fit a hand. His son too was an American artist of international renown Frederick Childe Hassam. Bowie, circa 1860 is accompanied with well fit leather sheath with brass throat.
