AUTO PISTOL ATTRIBUTED TO THE U.S.S. NEW YORK

Using “Colt .45 Service Pistols” by Charles Clawson as reference. This pistol was one of 1,300 shipped July 25th, 1913, to the U.S. Navy General Storekeeper in the U.S. Navy Yard of Brooklyn, NY. S# 38,001-43,800 was distributed to various ships with majority allocated to the U.S.S. New York battleship.
The U.S.S. New York (BB34) was a Dreadnought battleship that was commissioned May 1914 while being built 1912-1914 in Brooklyn Navy Yard as the first U.S. battleship to carry the 14 inch gun. This battleship served in both World Wars. During WWI, she was a reinforcement ship for the British Navy blockade. During WWII, she served as an escort for Liberty ships to Britain, artillery support during Operation Torch of North Africa and naval support during the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. She received 3 battle stars for her service ending between 1946-1948 as a target in the Bikini Atoll. She was used as a nuclear weapons target surviving explosions and radiation until sunk in 1948.
Per “U.S. PISTOLS & REVOLVERS 1909-1945″ by J.C. Harrison, appears to have all correct parts of early 1913 mfg. including Colt 5” barrel and double diamond walnut grips. MAGS: 1-7 rd. with lanyard loop; has a dull cleaned appearance with spots of patina. CURIO GUN
