EXCEEDINGLY SCARCE & FINE, 2″ COLT NEW SERVICE DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER WITH FACTORY LETTER
| Cal. 45 (45 Colt). | S# 332475. | Bbl. 2″. | 26-3214/MLW |
While being the largest swing out cyl. revolver ever offered by Colt, the New Service enjoyed a significant production run from 1898 to 1944. Many iterations in both caliber and bbl. length configurations were made throughout the course of production, examples with a 2″ bbl. undoubtedly being amongst the most scarce. This example, mfg. by Colt in 1931 features the distinct 2″ bbl., which bears no factory markings, as one might expect. The left side of the frame is marked with the Rampant Colt logo and Verified Proof. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, with the top strap of the frame exhibiting a matte blue finish. Sides of hammer are polished in-the-white, with the top strap exhibiting a polished blue finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece Colt silver medallion checkered wood grips, and features a case colored lanyard swivel and ring on the butt. Special order fixed blade front sight and standard frame notched rear sight. Front face of trigger features a checkered panel. Ejector rod without threads for checkered head. Matching numbers are present on the frame and cyl. crane.
