RARE MCELROY & HUNT MARKED CONFEDERATE FRAME BUCKLE ON ITS ORIGINAL BELT

| 02-27457/BF |

This is a very scarce Confederate fixed tongue frame buckle marked by McElroy & Hunt of Macon, Georgia. This was the classic enlisted Confederate buckle because is was sturdy and easy to produce in sand molds. Examples can be found in most every theater of war but marked examples are few and far between. It is difficult to find the buckle, but to find the buckle on the original belt is truly exceptional. This is believed to be the only example of a McElroy marked buckle on its original belt. The McElroy foundry produced all manner of metal items, parts and pieces for the Confederacy including swords, axes, belt plates, cooking pots, bayonet scabbard tips, frying pans, cartridge box finials, wire, nails, and more.
