SCARCE 1ST MODEL CONFEDERATE GRISWOLD & GUNNISON REVOLVER
01-29641 | Cal. 36. | S# 855.
1st model Griswold revolver in standard configuration with raised round barrel housing and 7.5″ round barrel, serial number “855” is found stamped on right side of cylinder & frame and bottom of barrel. Secondary number “55” is found on triggerguard & backstrap internally, “5” is stamped on wedge. Roman numeral assembly mark “II” is located on frame, backstrap, and triggerguard. Cryptic inspection backwards “DD” is found on frame, backstrap, and triggerguard, cryptic “G” is stamped on barrel by latch. Wood grips are not numbered but have “L. T. Walker CS” scratched in channel along with Bill Gary’s stamped “GARY” which he added to many of his guns when in his collection. The triggerguard also has “L T WALKER” scratched inside. This revolver has long collection history and has a letter of authenticity written by Bill Gary stating “Griswold & Gunnison SN# 855 is authentic in every respect and is a very good example of the first model G&G”. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: My current updated article on Griswold & Gunnison revolvers; 1992 letter of authenticity signed by Bill Gary; letter of authenticity signed by Cliff Sophia with insurance appraisal for David Condon April 24, 1992. There is correspondence citing my (John Sexton) concerns with restoration also, and correspondence with Norm Flayderman. The original catalog entry & bill of sale from David Condon 1992 and other notes are also in this file. PROVENANCE: Paul Janke collection ~1960; D.E.
