SELDOM ENCOUNTERED, NORTH KOREAN TYPE 58 MACHINE GUN

1 of only approx. 800,000 Type 58 machine guns mfg. in the DPRK (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea) during the Type 58’s 10 year production period (1958-1968) at Factory 61 and Factory 65 in Jyn Chun. These Type 58s are among some of the most desirable variants in the U.S., with most examples having likely having found their way into the U.S. after being captured as war trophies during the Vietnam War. This example is marked with a encircled North Korean star, followed by the S#, above “58” and a Hangul character. Right side of the receiver is marked with x2 Hangul characters at the “SEMI” and “FULL” positions. Underside of receiver is engraved “MTCH/ LK. ZURICH, IL.”, indicating mfg. / registration by Metrotech. Metal components exhibit a nicely reapplied blue finish overall, save for on the gas cyl. tube. Plain wood 2-piece handguards, pistol grip, and buttstock. Left side of lower handguard is marked “6086”, with an encircled “58”, “0478>”, and various small inspector proofs marked on the buttstock. AK-47 pattern thread protector, with open top post front sight and tangent square notch rear sight graduated 1-8 (lowest position a Hangul character). Receiver had been cut and professionally rewatted by Metrotech, with visible lines present along the rear of the of the milled receiver grooves. Nearly all serialized parts are matching, to include the receiver, receiver cover, mainspring guide rod, bolt carrier, and bolt. First “2” in bolt’s S# has been restruck above another “2”. Cleaning rod and butt trap cleaning kit are present. NFA registry lists “North Korean” in the mfg. block and “AK-47” in the model block. MAGS: x1 slab side Soviet 30-rd. mag. with Izhmash arrow within triangle insignia marked on the spine. NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT MG REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION. FULLY TRANSFERABLE. STATUS: MODERN. CLASS III.
