The 26″ barrels fitted with slightly raised narrow matted rib are engraved “MADE TO ORDER A.H. FOX” “CHROMOX FLUID STEEL” on tops. There are 2″ triangles of very nicely cut semi-relief shaded scrolling acanthus engraving at breech ends. Barrel flats are marked with S#, caliber, Fox proof and grade “DE”. Manufacturer’s info is on loop. Small sized case-hardened Fox type box lock action with rotary bolt features automatic safety and double triggers. Action is near fully engraved with cleanly cut and shaded scrolling acanthus matching barrels which surrounds game scenes with two woodcocks on left side, grouse on right and a setter pointing a pair of flushing woodcocks on bottom. “ANSLEY H. FOX” is in a banner on each side. Fences are deep relief engraved with oak leaves and a gold inlaid grouse is on top lever pivot. Engraver’s signature “A. Tuscano Engr.” (Tony, a highly regarded American engraver who specializes in fine scroll.) is on trigger plate. Blued trigger guard with matching scroll on bow has S# on tang. Straight grip buttstock made of nicely marbled and somewhat stump figured European walnut measures 14-7/8″ over engraved skeleton steel butt plate. Side panels are checkered. “D” fancy pattern checkering with ribbons and flourishes is on diamond grip. Matching beavertail ejector for end with Deeley type release is stamped with patent info on interior of iron. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: L .614. R .614. Restriction: L .007 (IC). R .007 (IC). Wall Thickness: L .032. R .034. STOCK: DAH: 2-5/16″. DAC: 1-3/8″+. CAST: very slightly off. LOP: 14-7/8″. WEIGHT: 5 lb. 10 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: gun is housed in its original tan leather case with stitched leather corners lined in dark burgundy cloth. A paper Fox label is in lid. Case contains gold plated square oil bottle and two-piece brass and ebony cleaning rod. CONDITION: very fine showing evidence of light hunting use. Barrels retaining nearly all original blue with minor marks from handling and assembly. Case hardening color of action shows silver highlights and thinning around bottom and is silvered on sharp edges. Blue of trigger guard shows light wear at grip. Stocks retain nearly all their original finish with some minor marks and scratches with a fairly heavy 5/8″ long narrow dent on left side of comb. Checkering is very lightly worn. Bores are bright and shiny. Action is tight; ejectors are strong and in time. Case leather is very fine, light in color with some marks and stains. Straps and handle are good. Interior cloth is fine with compressions. Label has some deep dents and some staining. A fine handling lightweight game gun. MODERN GUN
