The Colt factory burned in February 1864. Charles Pate in his superlative 2012 text “THE COLT MODEL 1860 ARMY REVOLVER” states survival of 1864 production was probably less than 2,000 revolvers and less than 200 survivors are listed in his census. At this point in Colt’s production, all revolvers were sold in the civilian market as the army had quit buying. Colt had sufficient quantity of parts from military production. Many revolvers in this serial range 140000-153000 turned up in London with later Richards-Mason alterations. This revolver is in the standard configuration blue and case coloring, one line U.S. America address, “COLT’S PATENT” stamped on left side of frame, small “B” on left side trigger guard bow, small “Y” stamped on bottom of backstrap. All serial numbers are matching. Bbl., frame and trigger guard numbers are each over-stamped. Revolver is mounted with pair of smooth ivory grips. ANTIQUE GUN
