Bbl. 26″ round. Combination front sight, model 1873 rear sight w/ a Vernier style tang peep sight. Case colored 1873 dated high arch breech block & 1873 dated U.S. Springfield lock. Lock, breech block, receiver & trigger guard bow have vine type foliate scroll hand engraving. Band fastened half-length walnut stock. Features include engraved pewter forearm tip., hand checkering & engraved carbine buttplate w/ long finial. Hardwood ramrod has nickel finished brass tip & is held by a single faceted iron pipe.. Estimate quantity of 125 first type officer’s models were mfg. 1875-1877.
