RARE CIVIL WAR BRASS FRAME BUTTERFIELD ARMY REVOLVER.

This unique Civil War revolver of which 640 are thought made (1861-1862) utilized a disk priming mechanism. Pellet primers are loaded in spring loaded reservoir at bottom of frame w/ knurled knob closure. When revolver is cocked, patented arm protrudes, picks up pellet & places it above nipple for firing. Standard configuration, 7″ oct. bbl., brass frame w/ top strap marked “BUTTERFIELDS / PATENT DEC. 11 1855 / PHILADA.”
