FINE EARLY GERMAN HIRSHFANGER MIT STEINSCHLOSSPISTOLE OR HUNTING SWORD PISTOL.

This fine weapon features a hunting sword w/ a wide fuller beneath a narrow fuller on a plain straight blade. Brass hilt w/ turned down guard decorated w/ an allegorical scene. The crossguard, quillon, knuckle bow & pommel cap are all decorated w/ similar allegorical scenes. The grip appears to be covered in shark or ray skin. No scabbard. The pistol has a short cannon like bbl. & a receiver that is marked, “SCHIRMER IN BAMBERG”. The side of the receiver has an artfully engraved boar. Wolfgang Schirmer worked & produced exceptional arms in Bamberg, Germany. He was born in 1704 & died in 1772. The hunting sword pistol likely dates from around 1750-1760.
