A RARE TSAR ALEXANDER NO. 1 REGIMENT 10 AWARD MEDAL BAR OF THE FRANCO-PRUSSIAN WAR PERIOD BELONGING TO MAJOR GENERAL HERMAN AUGUST BENNO VON HENNINGES.

This extraordinary medal bar consists of an 1870 Iron Cross 2nd Class, an 1870 era Order of the Red Eagle 4th Class w/ swords, the Crown Order 3rd Class w/ swords in gold & enamel marked “W” for Wagner, an 1870 era officer’s 25 Year Service Cross, an 1864 Campaign medal, an 1870-71 Franco-Prussian War medal, an 1866 Campaign Cross, an 1864 Campaign medal, a Russian Order of Saint Vladimir 4th Class in gold & enamel by Keibel & marked “56” & “1869” & an 1871 period Saxony Albrecht Order Type 1 Officer’s Cross w/ swords in gold & enamel. An extremely visually impactful & rare combination of awards.

Herman August Benno Von Henninges was born in 1836 in Brunswick, Germany. He entered the Cadet Corps on August 29, 1854 & was a grenadier in the Emperor Alexander Grenadier Regiment. On Dec. 16, 1854 he became a portepee cadet & on Feb. 9, 1856 he was an unpaid 2nd Lieutenant becoming a paid 2nd Lieutenant on Feb. 23, 1857. From Dec. 1, 1857 to Oct. 18, 1858 he was Adjutant to the 3rd Battery, 3rd Guard Landwehr Regiment. Oct. 18, 1858 to Oct 1, 1863 he was Adjutant of the Fusilier Battalion. Feb. 14, 1863 he was promoted to 1st Lieutenant. He served in many more capacities in the German Army & was promoted through the ranks reaching Lieutenant Colonel on Sept. 16, 1881 & 2 years later joined the Staff Corps. On July 14, 1885 he was appointed Colonel & served as the Inspector of Military Prisons. On Jan. 12, 1886 he became Commander of the Emperor Alexander Guard Grenadier Regiment No. 1. On Sept 19, 1888 he became Commander of Posen & on Nov. 13, 1888 he was promoted to Major General. A wonderful & rare medal bar belonging to a well-known & heroic German Major General.
