INCREDIBLE FACTORY CUTAWAY ILLUSTRATING MOST FUNCTIONING PARTS OF THE FAMOUS “NEW ITHACA DOUBLE” (NID).

22-399
Cal. 12 Ga. 2 3/4″
S# 425559

The new Ithaca double has become a classic as well as a technological advancement over all previous Ithaca models. The factory was justly proud of the new design & here we offer what must be a factory made cutaway illustrating all aspects of its design except for the locking system, allowing this gun to be fired. The gun is a very early (Star model) field grade w/ cocking indicators. Production started w/ S# 425000, so this gun most likely dates from the first month of production in 1925. The 30″ bbls. are unaltered & have full length matted rib. They are marked “SMOKELESS POWDER STEEL” & “MADE IN U.S.A.” on tops. Bbl. flats are stamped w/ serial number, choke numbers “4” & “4” (FULL & FULL) & “2 3/4 CHAMBER”. Bottom of lump is stamped w/ nitro proof mark & grade “F”. Case hardened boxlock action has serial number, “F” & “12” on water table along with “PATENT” “APPLIED FOR”. Left side of action is engraved w/ star & roll marked w/ Ithaca name & address along w/ usual pointing dog. There are no remnants of roll markings on left side of action and were probably never applied. Left side of action & stock has been partially cut away to expose the inner workings of the gun including the new style cocking cams, coil springs, hammer & cocking indicator arrangement, as well as safety mechanism & its engagement w/ triggers. Trigger plate is cut to show sear-engagement. Engraved stars also appear on bottom of action & blued trigger guard bow. Capped pistol grip buttstock of stump figured American walnut measures 14 3/16″ over original serrated hard rubber buttplate. The point pattern checkering at grip has had points cut so that borders end within 3/16″ of cutaways. Stock measures 14 3/16″ over its original serrated hard rubber buttplate. Matching splinter forend has left side cut away to view the new bbl. latch system which is a modification of the English Deeley latch. Again, checkering is originally cut to go around cutaway viewports.

PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Kenneth Horn (Grandson of JC Higgins).
