Stunning High Condition Gold Inlaid Double Flint Shotgun By G. A. Goellner Of Suhl

The 31″ browned twist barrels are unmarked on tops or bottoms. Case hardened, long, slightly inset patent breeches with gold touch holes are gold inlaid “Goellner” “In Suhl” (working 1830-31) in English style script on tops. Rib extension has gold inlaid foliage. Wide and thin gold lines are inlaid at rears. Breech iron with a band of engraved acanthus scroll across front is gold inlaid with a sunburst and other acanthus highlights. Case hardened locks, having flat plates with pointed tails are fitted with large well filed serpentine cocks, semi-waterproof pans, bridled frizzens and feather springs with rollers and interesting scroll filed finials.

Locks are also fitted with back sliding safetys that engage at half cock. Locks are attractively flush gold inlaid with borders consisting of stalks and ears of wheat along with some scrolled flourishes. Right lock is also inlaid “Goellner” under pan, left lock with “In Suhl”. Tutonic style wood trigger guard has German silver reinforcing band inlet along bottom edge which is engraved with more wheat ears and acanthus. German silver heelplate covers only about 30% of butt and has fancy filed top tang, which is scroll engraved. “No. 7.” is on butt end. Stock of very finely marbled and nicely fiddle figured European walnut features incised geometric carving along outline of butt and on ridge of swept right hand cheekpiece. Square checkering is at grip and around forend. Stock attaches to barrels with captive sidebolt through oval silver escutcheons. Fruitwood ramrod with horn tip and steel tail (worm under cap) mounts through two fancy turned German silver pipes and matching thimble. Gun is fitted with wide sling loops that are mounted to mid-pipe and toeline.
