Fine Iconic & Very Rare Dufilho Confederate Staff Officer’s Sword With “Pelican Feeding Young”

02-17236

30.5″ unstopped fullered blade, crisp maker’s mark: “DUFILHO / NEW ORLEANS”. This is among the most beautiful of all Confederate officer swords. Large guard with relief cast Louisiana State Seal (Pelican feeding young) in laurel wreath and large “CS”.

This sword is a fine “attic condition” survivor with original scabbard with scalloped mounts and rococo decorated ring bands. Alexandre H. Dufilho was prewar cutler making surgical instruments and bowie knives. He continued his trade during the war, making the highest quality Confederate swords.
