WONDERFUL SAVAGE M1907 .45 US MILITARY TEST PISTOL
24-1603
SN 224
Cal. 45ACP
Exceeding scarce, original finish Savage .45 ACP as tested by the US military against the Colt. One of approximately 300 pistols made between 1907-1911 and one of just a handful of all-matching pistols with its original high polish finish. Well documented, with citation by SN in U.S. Military Automatic Pistols 1894-1920 by E. Scott Meadows on page 261 and appearing in full color on the dust jacket’s back cover. After US testing, the vast majority were reconditioned by Savage, a process that included the removal of most of the slide address, leaving only the CAL .45 marking, and refinishing the pistol with a matte blue. This particular gun is exceptional in having avoided that refurbishment, still appearing as per its original submission with full address two-line address on barrel rib referencing manufacturer, location in Utica, N.Y, and 1905 patent date suffixed by CAL .45. Safety detents marked “FIRE” and “SAFE”. Fitted with fully checkered walnut grips and magazine whose body is correctly in-the-white having a blued floorplate. Rack #36 stamped on top of left grip. Major components finished with Savage’s brilliant high-polish blue; barrel is in the white; trigger and magazine release lever are color case hardened. Detailed disassembly shows a fully matching gun, the sight bar overstamped 224/151, both grips factory matching as is the magazine.
