OUTSTANDING COLT 1860 ARMY SHIPPED DEC. 10TH, 1861, FROM THE EDWARD SCOTT MEADOWS COLLECTION

01-24694
Cal 44
SN 19284

U.S. contract Colt M1860 Army percussion revolver in .44 manufactured in 1861. This common revolver, over 200,000 made, in uncommonly high condition has a four-screw frame with stock cut-outs on each side of the recoil shield and back strap. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the one-line legend: “- ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-“. “COLTS/PATENT” is stamped on the left side of the frame. The barrel, cylinder and back strap have the military blue finish while the loading lever, frame and hammer are color case hardened. The trigger guard is brass and the one-piece walnut grip has an oil finish. The cylinder is roll-marked with the usual Texas Navy battle scene from 1843 and stamped “COLTS PATENT NO.” with matching “19284” overstamp and “PAT. SEPT 10TH 1850”. All of the visible serial numbers match: the full serial number is stamped on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, cylinder and back strap. The partial serial number “9284” is stamped on the arbor pin. Wedge is unnumbered. “T”, “C” or “B” sub-inspection marks are stamped on most components. A lightly stamped ordnance inspection that consists of three scriptic letters surrounded by an oval is on the lower left side of the grip; there are no markings on the right side.
