A FINE UNMARKED 17TH CENTURY ALL METAL FLINTLOCK PISTOL.
01-26942 | Cal. 58. | S# NSN.
Similar in construction and some details to those known to have been produced by the Cloeter family of Mannheim. This pistol has 11-5/8″ barrel with octagonal breech section that transitions to sixteen sided then through deep turned band to round. Barrel then screws into solid iron butt section. Lock parts are mounted on the outside; left side with main spring, sear and sear spring, tumbler axle goes through body of pistol to mate with serpentine flint cock on right side. Right side is also mounted with rounded pan, unbridled friction frizzen and unusually shaped feather spring. Flared butt is mounted with screwed on rounded cap with juncture nicely pierced and shaped. Plain steel trigger guard is screwed on and turned steel ramrod mounts through two small steel pipes. The only embellishment aside from cap and barrel turnings is some filed in triangular decoration at breech end of barrel with dots punched at the summits of the triangles along with some simple scrolls on face of cock. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: catalog page from Little John’s Auction Service listing this pistol with a handwritten notation of $8,000. STATUS: ANTIQUE.
