FINE PR GASTINNE RENETTE PERCUSSION BREECHLOADING TARGET PISTOLS WITH CASE & ACCESSORIES
01-27982 Cal. 45 (Both). S# 3568 & 3569 (On bottoms of barrels; can be seen through bottom of stock with barrels in forward position).
These finely made pistols have 10″ blued octagon barrels with center portion filed to sixteen sides and fluted. Top flats of central portions are engraved “INVon GASTINNE-RENETTE”. S#’s are on bottoms of barrels along with maker’s name and “1887”. Case hardened breeches have beautifully filed percussion bolsters and are scroll engraved. Barrels are opened by long push forward levers that hinge near central portion of barrels and rest in place around rear sections of trigger guards. When opened breech area is exposed for loading powder and ball. Island front spring locks with flat plates and rebated tails are fitted with well filed serpentine percussion hammers. Locks are engraved with near full coverage very nicely cut small scroll. “GASTINNE RENETTE” is at bottom of each lockplate. Trigger guards are filed with finger spurs. Figured European walnut stocks have long flared checkered grips. Case hardened steel grip caps are also scroll engraved. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: pistols are housed in their original figured mahogany case with flush inlet brass shield on top. Case is lined in green cloth and bottom is French fitted for pistols and an array of original accessories including steel round ball mould with sprue cutter, rosewood handled nipple wrench and turn screw, small steel powder measure, small pewter oil bottle, rosewood and brass cleaning/loading rod and two rosewood containers; one for patches and the other containing original key. Also included is a copy of a catalog page featuring this pair of guns listed in an Amoskeag Auction with handwritten notation of $10,000+. STATUS: ANTIQUE.
