RARE, DOCUMENTED 1ST GEN SAA REVOLVER IN DESIRABLE 44 SPECIAL WITH ORIGINAL BOX

Single Action Army revolver mfg. by Colt in 1940. “THE 36 CALIBERS OF THE COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY” by David M. Brown Page 82 states that only 506 revolvers were mfg. in this caliber. Left side of the bbl. is marked “COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY .44 SPECIAL”, with Colt’s single line address marked across the top. Left side of the frame is marked with Colt’s -line patent information, followed by the Rampant Colt logo. Frame features a case color hardened finish, with remaining metal components exhibiting a blue finish overall. Trigger is nitre blued, with the sides of the hammer being polished in-the-white. 2 Piece mother of pearl grips with Rampant Colt medallions. Blade front sight with frame notched rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, trigger guard, and rear grip strap (both appropriately numbered on the right side beneath the grip panel). Matching assembly # “811” is present on the frame (beneath right grip panel) as well as on the loading gate. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Colt factory letter dated August 19, 1974 “Caliber .44/c / Barrel Length 5-1/2″/ Finish Blue/ Type of Stocks Not Listed/ Sold & Shipped to: W.O. Lischang / Address Syracuse, New York / Date of shipment September 10, 1938 / Number of same type firearms in / in this shipment. one”. This example is also accompanied by its original factory box, which matches via the full S# in pencil on the underside of the bottom panel. Box is appropriately marked with a “S&W CARTRIDGE” end label on the lid. Box contains shooting instructions and brush. STATUS: CURIO.
