RARE SWIVEL BREECH SINGLE SHOT OFF HAND RIFLE BY L.W. TISDEL OF SCRANTON, PA
01-28341 | Cal. 38-55. | S# 269.
The 30-1/4″ octagon barrel with muzzle turned for bullet starter (not present) is fitted with “U” notch adjustable rear and front post sight in tubular protector. Barrel is completely unmarked except for “L.W. TISDEL” “SCRANTON PA” “CAST STEEL.” (listed as “Tisdale” working 1848-1890) and with S# on top flat. Rear portion of barrel is fitted with heavy housing which pivots to the right on stud in front of action allowing for loading and extraction. Barrel stops at top (firing position) by a large screw in left side of action. Nickel plated boxlock action with case hardened hammer is fitted with double set triggers and fancy trigger guard with finger spur and scroll forming grip. S# is found on rear of trigger guard and bottom tang. Top tang is mounted with mid-range Vernier target rear sight. Straight grip buttstock made of relatively plain American walnut measures 13-5/8″ over nickel plated heavy steel off hand buttplate and features swept right hand cheekpiece. Matching slim forend with horn inlet schnabled tip attaches with screw and has screwed in palm rest. STATUS: ANTIQUE.
