SUPERB REMINGTON P-17 CUSTOM BIG BORE BOLT ACTION RIFLE

Barrel is Pac Nor 25″ match of heavy tropical profile with 8 groove rifling having 1 in 18″ twist rate. Sights are by New England Custom Guns consisting of Masterpiece banded R100 ramped front sight having R 106 hood and R104 silver 3/32″ bead incorporating night sight; rear is Classic NECG R202 three leaf express sight on island base marked “ERA”. NECG R300 swivel base band on barrel and inletted double screw base only (missing swivel) in toe line of butt. Stock is fitted with Breako mercury filled recoil reducer plus Pachmayr all black ventilated White Line recoil pad; stock reinforced with 1/2″ steel rod. Single stage Timney trigger (cocks on closing), reworked safety lever with smooth outside surface, PC-7 bedded using brass pillars (“NB12″ marked barrel channel), restyled trigger guard assembly with straightened floor plate and reshaped bow, reshaped bolt handle with hollow knob and ebony capped dual stock reinforcement bolts. AA fancy Turkish walnut stock having four panels of borderless skip line checkering along with Gabon ebony grip cap and forend. Straight comb and outlined raised cheekpiece; 12 7/8” LOP and weight of 10 pounds, 7 ounces. Metal finish and stock work are of the highest order to include 2 indexed plug screws in flat topped rear bridge of receiver that are match polished; plain front bridge is not drilled and tapped. Listed as modern because date of customizing cannot be dated. Some of description is consignor derived and some by observation. Speculation might be that Lenny Mews created this custom as he was a personal friend of the consignor and the workmanship seems to be of his caliber. PROVENANCE: From the Buckstix Collection.
