ITALIAN SWEPT HILT RAPIER IN THE STYLE OF PIETRO HERNANDEZ

02-24766

This exquisite Italian swept hilt rapier was likely produced in the early to mid 1800s in the style of Pietro Hernandez. The rapier measures 50″ overall with a signed blade measuring 42″ to the base of the guard. The blade has a central 9 1/2″ fuller with “PIETRO HERNANDEZ” stamped in the valley. Absolutely stunning silver inlayed iron hilt featuring a 4 branch guard adorned by 4 inlayed silver heads and numerous sections of vines. The 9 1/2″ crossguard, as well as the 3 branch knuckle bow, are also inlayed with silver vines. The huge globular pommel features more vines and a large, artistically impressive, inlayed silver head of a bearded and mustached man. Iron wire wrapped grip with Turk’s head knots both top and bottom. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis. (02-24766/BF)
