UNIDENTIFIED FLINTLOCK SOUTHERN KENTUCKY STYLE RIFLE

Bbl. 42 1/2″ with a rifled bore measures 7/8″ across the flats at the muzzle. Dovetail mounted brass sights. The front sight has a fine fixed blade. The unusual rear sight has 1 standing and 1 folding leaf. The left bbl. flat is stamped “G.W” that may be the bbl. makers signature. The iron trade lock & hammer have simple scroll engraving with single line borders. The partially legible name appears to be “Ca___ / & Co.”. Plain brass trigger. Pin fastened full length stock with a slight Roman nose shows good curl with dimples behind the lock & sideplate flats. The left side has silver wire inlay that may be the owners initials “PFC”. Right side features a daisy finial rectangular lid patch box with buttplate mounted release button. Other brass furniture includes a crescent buttplate, toe plate, floral finial finger curl trigger guard, sideplate escutcheons & nose cap. The hardwood ramrod is held by a faceted octagon brass thimble & 3 pipes. Consignor supplied information identifies the rifle as being Virginia made of the James River School. Weight: 11lbs, 3.2oz.
