EXTREMELY RARE, FULLY TRANSFERABLE, FINE R80 COLT MONITOR AUTOMATIC MACHINE RIFLE

This may be the finest example of an early Colt Monitor machine gun in existence today. The gun that would eventually become the first official FBI Fighting Rifle, the legendary Colt Monitor, started life in response to violence of the time. Manufactured in the 1920s-1930s, only 125 were ever produced. After finding that agents armed with the .45ACP Thompson Submachine Guns were quite ineffective at stopping large, moving vehicles during road blocks, the Colt Monitor was designed in 30-06 which was capable of splitting an engine block, therefore solving that current problem. It was marketed to police officers, prison guards & riot squads. While it may have been a terrific ballistic solution, the financial situation at the time, was less optimal. Being marketed at the height of the depression, found many departments with limited funds, at best, and there were only 125 of these guns that made it into production. Though it wasn’t made exclusively for the FBI, they purchased the majority of those produced, sharing eleven with the U.S. Treasury Department and a fraction remained to be purchased by private security companies & banks. Muzzle is terminated w/ a unique Cutts Compensator, measuring 5″ in length, w/ 12 slots cut on both the right & left side of the body. Front sight is a hooded blade. Wooden forend measured 6.5″ in length, w/ 7 horizontal serrations on the bottom. The pistol grip, rear of the trigger employees wooden grap panels, matching the forend & shoulder stock. Shoulder stock is a fixed sytle w/ a steel butt plate. Rear sight is a folding ladder w/ a CQB peep to be utilized when folded. Sling swivels front & rear. Top of receiver is marked: “COLT AUTOMATIC MACHINE RIFLE / MODEL R80, CAL. 30 / BROWNING PAT FEB 4, 1919 / APR 14, 1925, AUG. 4 1925 / COLT’S PAT. FIRE ARMS MFG. CO. / HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A. / NO. C-103110 / COLT MONOTOR”. Right side non reciprocating charging handle. Safety / selector marked “F-A-S” on left side. Exterior is largely a deep, matte blued finish, aside from the muzzle compensator & magazine, both which exhibit a darker, brighter bluing. Leather sling. MAGS: 1 blued 20 rd.
