FULLY TRANSFERABLE CURIO JOHNSON MODEL 1944 LIGHT MACHINE GUN
03-2019 | Cal. 30-06. | S# 2695NAC. | Bbl. 22″.
This hard fought contender for United States Military acceptance is as rare as it is desirable. Chambered in 30-06 & mag. fed from the left side, it utilizes an integral hinged dust cover which doubled as an access point for stripper clip loading. This unique short recoil operated mechanism fired from a closed bolt when semi-auto was selected & from an open bolt w/ the selection of full auto. This accomplished two things; without out the movement & mass of the bolt during aimed single shots, accuracy is greatly improved while retaining the safety that an open bolt mechanism provides during sustained full auto fire. The barrel which is terminated w/ a unique fixed front sight blade measuring almost 3″ in height, is also encompassed by over 7″ of perforation from the unique shroud, The rear sight is micro adj. for windage & elevation. The left hand horizontal position of the mag. is a recognizable trait of the 1941 & 1944, almost equivalent to the irregularly short stocks. Exposed metal surfaces are parkerized, stocks & pistol grip panels are matching hardwood. Rear sling swivel attaches to bottom of the 1941-style shoulder stock while front sling swivel connects to bbl. shroud mechanism, forward of the 1944-style monopod. Markings on top of receiver (to the right of U.S. patent block) read from right side include “LIGHT MACHINE GUN / “JOHNSON AUTOMATICS” / CAL. 30-06 MODEL OF [small milled out section as typical w/ these] / MADE IN PROVIDENCE. R.I. U.S.A.” w/ serial number. MAGS: 13 steel 20 rd. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: tan canvas 12-mag pouch. NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT MG REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION. FULLY TRANSFERABLE. PROVENANCE: Military Museum Collection of Shooters Outpost, Hooksett NH. STATUS: CURIO CLASS III.
