Edwin M. Louer
Edwin M. Louer
Ed Louer was born in 1938 and grew up in the north suburbs of Chicago. By the time he was twelve, he was already a marksman with a fascination for gun collecting and how guns influenced the development of the American West. For over sixty years, Ed built his collection and became known as an antiques arms expert. His extensive knowledge was based on a passion for history, extensive reading and careful research, especially for those guns, knives and other weapons he bought and sold. His expertise was well respected as he participated in many annual gun shows where his advice was often sought by other collectors.
Ed was a Renaissance man with many hobbies. His fascination with the west brought him to work as a cowboy on various ranches. Eventually he became an accomplished team roper, participating in rodeos throughout the country. Ed was a proud member of the NRA, the Kentucky Rifle Association and many other organizations. His collection ranged over all types of guns. His particular specialty was in antique weapons from the American Revolution through the Civil War and western settlement. However, his collection also included examples of modern firearms such as those in this auction. Ed was a devoted patriot and always respected America’s greatness. He believed the guns he collected honored those dedicated men who carried and used them in war to protect our freedoms.
The items now on offer were ones Ed owned for over 50 years. They were closely held in his collection and were never published. Each item is in rare condition and has been treasured and properly maintained.
More than anything, Ed loved his family and close friends. He will be missed, but his legacy will continue through the pride buyers will have in owning examples from his important collection.
Poulin Firearms is very proud to present this portion of the Edwin M. Louer’s Estate to collectors around the globe. It is always a privilege to be part of the passing of the torch with fine firearms from one temporary custodian to the next.
