This is one of the true rarities in the field of WWII German collecting. It is a mayor’s neck Chain of Office belonging to the towns of Spesbach & Katzenbach. The chain was brought back to this country at the end of WWII by Lieutenant Colonel Howard C. Dellert. The chain consists of 2 engraved links that read, “Gemeinde Spesbach” & “Gemeinde Katzenbach” along w/ 4 links that have WWII German political leader eagles on the front. The chain further includes 8 links that depict crossed oak leaves & acorns, 2 links that have a DAF cog wheel insignia & 4 links that depict the insignia of the Reichsnahrstand. Each link is connected by silver chain. The central medallion hanging from the chain depicts a profile view of the head of Adolf Hitler on the front along w/ the words, “Der Fuhrer und Reichskanzler Adolf Hitler” w/ a Party symbol. On the reverse is a wreath of oak leaves & acorns. A stunning rarity that would be the centerpiece of any WWII German insignia or award collection.
