This ornate revolver was presented to Venustiano Carranza in 1915 while he was President of the Temporary Mexican Government. A gift of appreciation from citizens who supported his “Pueblos de Ejidos” plan to liberate land from wealthy nobles & return it to communal farms.
Venustiano Carranza Garza (1859-1920) was a Mexican politian, warlord & general. He was one of the “Big Four” warlords of the Mexican Revolution along w/ Pancho Villa, Emiliano Zapata & Alvara Obregon. In 1915, Carranza set himself up as head of the government & turned against his former conspirators. In 1917, Carranza was officially elected President of Mexico. Carranza organized the assassination of Zapata in 1919. In 1920, Carranza’s assassination was orchestrated by opponents of his plan to return the wealth of oil & coal to the people of Mexico. Carranza was one of the most important figures of the Mexican Revolution, who truly knew what was best for the country. His legacy of bringing stability to the country is based on his skills as a planner & organizer who relied on politics, where others relied on strength of arms. Although Carranza became the most powerful of the Big Four, he is the least remembered today.
